In January of this year, I filed 2 "Open Records Requests" with the office of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, one dated January 14, 2008 and the other dated Feb 8 2008. The January 14, 2008 request asked for a list of all complaints made to the Mayors office re: Any employee of the Dept. of Neighborhood Services for the years 2006 and 2007.

I waited almost 2 month's for his office to comply then I sent a follow-up letter on April 9, 2008 asking why the "Request" was yet to be fulfilled. I received no response from the Mayor's office. State statutes and the Attorney General have said that 10-14 days is a reasoanble period of time to comply with an "Open Records Request"

I sent another follow-up letter on June 2, 2008 again asking about the status of my requests. I finally received a phone call following the June 2nd letter. I have attached these documents to this e-mail.

When I was promised that the records would be available on June 17th, and they were not. I sent another follow-up letter on June 23rd.

I was finally provided the records on Friday, June 27th, 2008.

I have attached all of the documents re: the requests to this e-mail. I thought that there might be 10 or 12 people who actually would make a written complaint to the Mayors office. I was stunned to find 108 pages of complaints. Because the file would be too large to attach to this e-mail, I will send 2-3 of these complaints every day until I have all of them exhausted.

I will send them all in un-edited form just as I received them. I should note that the Mayors office, not me, has removed the names of the people who filed the complaints. Please keep in mind that the 108 pages of complaints are just the written letters and/or e-mails. Most people do not send written complaints until they get angry and even then, they try to resolve their complaints by making phone calls.

I should also say that I am simply the messenger so please don't complain to me. Some of the complaints are very good and some are very bad, of course the good or bad depends on which side of the fence that you are sitting on. I will say that I found many of them to be gut-wrenching or in some cases simply stunning. If you find that any of the letters, most of which are from City of Milwaukee owner-occupants or long time business people in Milwaukee are offensive to you, I would ask that you contact the Mayors office. You can send him an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it All that I ask you to is to please either send a copy to this list or send a copy to me, that will save me and the Mayors office a lot of time and trouble the next time that I ask for these records.

One last thing, the Mayors office has yet to comply with my Feb. 8th request when I asked for all communications from Martin G. Collins and the Mayors office re: the budget or the budget process.

Thank You

Orville Seymer
